My appreciation of trains is a family tradition. Growing up in Milwaukee my great uncles, cousins and other members of our family have worked in just about every district and car shop in the city. We have had our share of injuries and fatalities along the way with one great uncle engineer killed because of a train wreck on the old CNW on the southside of Milwaukee. (He died of burns at home three days after the crash,) Our family tradition includes car and locomotive builders, repairmen, operators, yard clerks and all of that tradition led me to work for the Milwaukee Road starting out as a "mud jumper" (track gang).
